TURKEY COUP: 50,000 PEOPLE SACKED, THOUSANDs OF INSTITUTIONS SHUT DOWN
Following a coup attempt to kill the Turkish President, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, all suspected Army Generals and Admirals will be arraigned at court in Istanbul, Turkey.
As soon as it became clear that the coup had failed on Saturday, the purges began - first with the security forces, then spreading to Turkey's entire civilian infrastructure.
About 50,000 people have been rounded up and sacked or suspended. 1,577 University Deans have been asked to resign. 21,000 teachers and about 15,000 education ministry officials have been confirmed have been asked to resign as well. 626 institutions have been shut down, most them being privates, officials have confirmed.
According to BBC, Turkey is pressing the US to extradite Mr Gulen, the suspect instigator o the coup, and the issue was raised during a phone call between US President Barack Obama and President Erdogan on Tuesday, the White House said.
