Meet Yahaya Sharif-Aminu - The Singer Sentenced To Death For Praising An Imam Above Muhammed

 

Yahaya Sharif-Aminu, a 22 years old Islamic gospel musician was on Monday, 10th August, 2020 sentenced under the Sharia law to death by hanging at upper Sharia court in the Hausawa Filin Hockey area of Kano State by Judge Khadi Aliyu Muhammad Kani . He was said to have blasphemed against Prophet Muhammed.

Yahaya Sharif-Aminu was relatively unknown in the Northern Nigeria, his songs were only popular among Tjjaniya sect which he belongs to. He got his popularity in March 2020, when his song in which he praised an imam from the Tijaniya Muslim brotherhood went viral through WhatsApp messenger.

He was accused to have praised an imam from the Tijaniya Muslim Brotherhood which he belongs to the level that has probably elevated him above Prophet Muhammed. His family home was burned down for the song.

Despite the rouse by Nigerian from other parts of the country for the controversial judgment, he could still walk free because he does have an opportunity to appeal the judgment.

Several sentences has been passed but But only one has been carried out -a man was hanged in 2002 after he was convicted of killing a woman and her two children
