Fox’s ‘Empire’ Finishes as Season’s Top Broadcast Series in Demos

As the 2015-16 television season officially comes to a close tonight, Fox can celebrate having the top-rated broadcast entertainment program in numerous demos with its sophomore soap “Empire.”
While NBC
’s “Sunday Night Football” was the No. 1 broadcast series for the season in adults 18-49, “Empire” finishes as the highest-rated entertainment series in this demo, several others as well as in social-media metrics. It didn’t quite reach the popularity heights of its closing episodes last year, but “Empire” overall in season two rated nearly as high as its phenom rookie season.
Here’s a look at some of the key highlights for “Empire”:
*It is the season’s No. 1 broadcast entertainment program among adults 18-49 (6.7), adults 18-34 (6.1) and teens 12-17 (4.4) as well as all female demos.
*It is the season’s No. 1 program among African-American adults 18-49, more than tripling its closest broadcast competitor (ABC’s “Scandal”).
*It retains 94% of its adults 18-49 audience, 98% of adults 18-34 and 95% of total viewers from its first season, and is up 10% among teens 12-17.
*It earns Fox’s largest multi-platform audience this season, averaging 21.2 million total viewers to date — an 80% jump over its “live plus same-day” delivery (11.8 million).
*It is averaging 4.8 million total viewers outside of television (non-linear), making it the largest such audience for a Fox drama this season.
*In addition to its huge following among African-Americans, “Empire” also over-indexes in English-speaking Hispanic homes (124).
*And “Empire” is the No. 1 most talked about regular broadcast primetime entertainment show on Twitter, generating 6.8 million live tweets and averaging 376,700 tweets per original episode.
