HOW OVER WORKING CAN INCREASE STROKE RISK & HEART DISEASES?

Working over 50 hours a week can increase your risk of sudden attack of illness which damages the brain, causing paralysis, and loss of feelings in the body. This is simply referred to as STROKE.

A research carried out on how long working hours during the week leading to stroke has shown that 17 studies involving a total of about 528,908 men and women who were followed for an average of 7.2 years as shown that have about 1.2 risks of stroke in those participants who worked 55 hours or more a week to those who worked 35-40 hours a week (after adjusting confounding variables).

More research also showed 25 studies involving about 603,838 o men and women who work for 55 hours and more found to have 13% increase risk of coronary heart diseases to those who participate in 35-40 hours of working in a week.

Observing that: “Employees who work long hours have a higher risk of stroke than those working standard hours; the association with coronary heart disease is weaker,” the study authors urge that: “These findings suggest that more attention should be paid to the management of vascular risk factors in individuals who work long hours.”
