THIS WILL SURPRISE YOU: THE MOON JELLYFISH
Its scientifically known as Aurelia Aurita, commonly know as Moon Jelly, Moon Jellyfish, Common Jellyfish or Saucer Jelly. This is a studied specie of genus Aurelia.
The Jellyfish is translucent, and is about 25-40 centimeter in diameter. You can easily recognized it by its four gonads usually seen on top of the bed. It uses it tentacles to collect feed such as medusae, plankton, and mollusks by bringing them into its body for digestion. It has limited motion and drites with the current even when swimming.
Aurelia does not have respiratory parts such as lungs, trachea or gills because of it small nature. But it respires. How? Yes, through the thin membrane of it body by diffusing oxygen from water. The animal does not only lack respiratory system but also excretory system and circulatory system. The adult medusa of the Aurelia, which has a transparent look, has an umbrella like membrane and tentacles which are attached to its bottom. Also four bright gonads can be found under its stomach. Through the muscular manubrium food travels and the radical canal helps disperse the food.
Aurelia Aurita is a prey to some larger predators such as ocean sunfish, known as Mola Mola, leatherback Sea Turtle, Scyphomedusa and some large hydromedusa.
Jellyfish dies after reproducing and living after some months. In the wild, it is probably rare for the Moon Jellyfish to live for more than six months.
